FPA Communication Committee Minutes - November 1, 2003 Attending: Vesta, Ann G., Lucy H., Brigit, Mary L., Elizabeth N., Patti B. Review of Town Meeting Moderator John Grech did a fine job. We would like to ask him again, and give equal time to speakers since there was a discrepancy this time. What shall we do to honor him? A letter to the principal with cc. to John for his file. A letter of appreciation to John. And an honorary membership to FPA. Mary Luttrell will take charge of this. Elections At town meeting, each candidate will have 1-2 minutes to speak. People can vote at the town meeting. with ballots numbered and their name crossed off the membership list. Only members can vote., according to the by-laws. We will mail out the rest of the ballots. (There will also be room for write-in candidates) We will number the envelopes. And have name and address on the outside of another envelope which is for mailing. As they come in, their name will be crossed off the member list as having voted. Separately, the envelope will be tossed and the ballot put in a basket with the others so that anonymity will be maintained. An impartial person — perhaps 2-3 students could help count the ballots. The date when the ballots are due will be decided when we decide the date of the Jan Town Meeting. (not on Superbowl Sunday!) Elizabeth is in charge of making ballots and addressing envelopes will be Ann Greenblatt. Recommend to Governance committee to have a cheaper membership fee for students and seniors — $5 or $10. Membership Need to Recruit! And make it clear that it makes them a voting member and they don’t have to add committees or meetings if they feel they are already overextended. Are there certain groups we could address? Like the prime timers, Hollydale Club, Forestville Historical Society, West County Rotary, El Molino Boosters, Friends of Forestville School. Joan was interested in speaking to the school groups. The idea of brochure plastic stands was again suggested for putting out brochures in Speer’s, Bank, Package Store, Journey’s End. Ann will get more brochures made, and Lucy will put up the holders. Elizabeth will help. Lucy will make label for brochures — “Elections in January. Your vote is your voice.” A beginning discussion about a membership interest form for volunteers was begun. to identify tasks if people do want to volunteer. Lucy and Ann will pursue this. The idea of a catchy refrigerator magnet for FPA was suggested by Patti Brunelle — she will research this. FPA Event Day Think about this for next year. Website Thank you Janet Zagoria!
