FPA Board Minutes - August 6, 2006

The board meets usually once a month at different locations and times. Please check the calendar to see the dates or contact Board Chair for more information.

Attending
Board Members Present: Birgit Carstenson, Elizabeth Naegle, Anne Greenblatt, Richard Naegle
Guests: Val Habegger

1) Minutes from last meeting, 6/11/06, approved.

2) FPA Town Social (Chamber of Commerce Mixer), Thursday, 8/23
  • 5-7:30 with set-up before 5.
  • Last year close to 400 people came!
  • Details reviewed (glass rental, plastic cups, garbage cans, tables, table cloths, flowers, tents, umbrella, Ramona confirmed (pouring wine);
  • All Forestville non-profits to be invited to have information tables: Youth Park, Prime Timers, Historical Society, Chamber of Commerce, Oddfellows, Food for Thought, Food Pantry (Methodist Church), Hollydale Club, Fire Department, Joyful Living Center, Wildlife Habitat Project, Green Valley Creek Project, Rebekah Lodge, and the FPA itself. Hopefully, we have not inadvertently forgotten anyone. Our apologies if we have. Please contact us, and we will be glad to include you.

3) Progress of Blue Rock Quarry Expansion proposal
  • Planning Commission will pass EIR on 8/17; Board of Supervisors will then schedule hearing end of September or beginning of October. PC recommends the expansion (tripling of production) and has backed away from requiring that safety mitigations be in place before such expansion takes place.
  • Discussion of Town’s options given the enormous impact that Blue Rock’s expansion will have on Forestville;
  • Unanimous decision to hold Town Meeting on Sunday, Sept 10, 4-6, at the Oddfellows Hall. Agenda will be “action planning” regarding quarry expansion. Mary Luttrell to be invited to chair the meeting. Those who oppose the approval of Blue Rock’s expansion ( because of the environment and/or because there are no safety mitigation guarantees) will be facilitated in planning how best to make their voices heard before and at the Board of Supervisors’ hearing.
  • Out of previous Town Meetings, our sense of the Town is that the majority of residents are not in favor of Blue Rock’s expansion of production especially if the Bypass is not built first.
  • Agreed to send out web blast about this issue.
  • Richard to write article for Gazette and notify County newspapers about the situation.

4) Update on status of Green Valley Creek Project
  • The Project is proceeding on schedule and the Creek is reviving! Volunteers are working regularly on the Creek (in particular on Sunday mornings, 10-12), but more are needed!

5) How to support the Farmer’s Market and Fun Faire? It’s a wonderful event, but few people are coming.
  • By holding the Town Social at the same time and adjacent to the Farmers’ Market, we hope to expose more townspeople to its attractions and value.

6) Val Habegger was invited to join the Board. She agreed. Unanimous approval. We are delighted to have her energy and wisdom with us.
