FPA Board Minutes - June 24, 2008

The board meets usually once a month at different locations and times. Please check the calendar to see the dates or contact Board Chair for more information.

Board Members Present: Elizabeth Naegle, Peter Renfro, Richard Naegle, Max Broome
Guests: Lucy Barnett Hardcastle, Jim Smith, Cathy Smith, Mary Nelson

1) Forestville Community Fund Advisory Committee recommendations accepted, as below.
  • The four Board members all voted in favor of the recommendations + in absentia approval of recommendations by Board Member, Raynetta James, made quorum vote and approval
  • Much gratitude expressed to the members of the Forestville Community Fund Advisory Committee, chaired by Lucy Barnett Hardcastle;
2) Approval minutes of last meeting, 5/5/08, deferred due to lack of quorum.

3) Max will pursue inviting the two supervisor candidates for our District to a debate at a Town Meeting
  • Suggested for a Sunday afternoon, 4-6, on 10/12 or 10/19
  • Possible involvement of outgoing Supervisor, Mike Reilly? Perhaps lame duck update on important issues for Forestville; or perhaps separate Town Meeting with Mike along with a potluck
4) Town Social, Thursday 8/21
  • Jointly sponsored by FPA and Chamber of Commerce; Chamber doing most of organization this year;
  • Discussion of what to include at FPA booth; need for all Board members and other FPA supporters to participate;
5) FPA liability insurance now in place

6) Tax exempt status of FPA confirmed by State Franchise Tax Board; thanks to Elizabeth and Raynetta for pursuing this.

Forestville Community Fund Advisory Committee Grant Recommendations, 6/08
- $10,500 available for grants: $9100 for “downtown improvement” + $1400 for riparian restoration / environmental education

- $23,050 total requested in 10 applications
Rough criteria used
The committee may give priority to those projects that:
  1. Will impact the most people.
  2. Can “match” dollars from other sources.
  3. Involve collaboration with other groups or projects.
  4. Has a volunteer component to the project.

Six Projects Recommended for Funding:
Note: Not listed in order of importance; numbers in parenthesis refer to identification numbers given project in Committee deliberations.

7) Green Valley Creek Restoration Maintenance (Larry Hanson)
  • Fund project coordinator and materials to help ensure survival of sapling trees & fish habitat
  • $2250 requested + volunteer labor
  • $1400 recommended; partial funding — but is the full amount of monies designated for riparian restoration
1) Abuse Prevention Policy Implementation (United Methodist Church)
  • Upgrade classroom door to child protection standards
  • $500 requested of $700 project
  • $500 recommended: full funding of request.
3) Downtown Maintenance Project (Vesta Copestakes for JD Kaiwi)
  • Weekly removal of trash on Front Street for 12 months
  • $4000 requested
  • $1000 recommended: for reduced project, i.e. twice monthly trash removal for 6 months.
5) El Molino All-Weather Track (El Molino All-Weather Track Committee)
  • All weather track at High School
  • $5500 requested towards $194,500 project
  • $5000 recommended.
6) Fire Station Re-Landscaping (Forestville Fire District)
  • Re-landscaping front of Fire Station
  • $2600 requested; donated installation costs and backlit message board
  • $600 recommended; partial funding + suggestion to reapply in February.
9) Patrick Amiot Sculpture for Forestville School (Friends of Forestville School Fdtn)
  • Large sculpture in front of Forestville school
  • $2000 requested towards $4000 project + volunteer labor
  • $2000 recommended

Four Projects not recommended for funding at this time

4) El Molino Little League field Project (El Molino Little League Inc.)
  • New grass surface & irrigation at Youth Park field
  • $5000 requested towards $30,000 project
10) Batting Cage Renovation (El Molino H.S. Baseball Field Renovation Project)
  • Completing a fenced in batting cage & creating a secure area for equipment
  • $5000 requested of $12,000 project
2) Bootcamp for Kids (Robert Zelenka — Circuit Fitness)
  • 6 week exercise & nutrition program for overweight children, 6-12
  • $1200 requested for advertising & equipment + donated leading of class
8) Improve Appearance of Downtown (Diane Shaw)
  • Several ideas/proposals to make downtown more visually appealing
  • No specific amount requested
