FPA Board Minutes - Feb. 25, 2007

The board meets usually once a month at different locations and times. Please check the calendar to see the dates or contact Board Chair for more information.

Attending
Board Members Present: Birget Carstensen, Val Habegger, Joan Riback, Peter Renfro, Richard Naegle
Guests: Vesta Copestakes

1) Minutes from last meeting, 11/5/06, unanimously approved.

2) Crinella property plans — report from Vesta
  • Review of Crinella proposal as submitted last week to PRMD; follow-up hearing scheduled for 3/15; discussion of density, design, and relationship to proposed commercial area;
  • Decided to try to involve more townspeople in review of the development plans; Vesta will announce in next Gazette that the Chamber of Commerce (if they approve; if not, she’ll do it personally) will hold an open forum on a Wednesday night to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the proposed developments--what might the impact be on Forestville and how might things change? she will also announce that the FPA’s Downtown Planning Committee will host a similar forum on a Monday night, hopefully with the Historical Society as co-host; Vesta will ask the Youth Park to hold both meetings in its meeting room;
  • Based on results of these two meetings, possible small group meeting with Orrin Thiessen to report and dialogue;
  • Also possible follow-up Town Meeting on Sunday, May 6, 4-6 (Richard to reserve Oddfellows);

3) First cash installment received from Bodean Company out of Good Neighbor agreement. Yearly contribution should be $12000+.
  • Discussion of establishing a Forestville Community Fund into which this money would go as well as other donations for the betterment of Forestville; FPA to be the conduit since we are a 501c3 organization, and hence donations to us are tax deductible;
  • Discussion of establishing an advisory Board; all the major non-profit service organizations in Town would be invited to participate: Chamber of Commerce, Youth Park, Prime Timers, El Molino High School, Forestville Elementary School, Forestville Historical Society, Odd Fellows, Rebecca Lodge, United Methodist Church, Food for Thought, Fire District, Water District, etc.; Advisory Board could help define parameters of “improvement of downtown Forestville,” establish grant application procedures, set up priorities, and recommend which projects should be funded;
  • Discussion of how to keep Bodean’s proprietary information confidential;

4) Report from Good Neighbor Group (Joan)
  • Working on a mission statement; great spirit of cooperation between Bill Williams, General Manager of Bodean Company, and the Forestville citizen representatives.
  • Discussion of how FPA can be watchdog for Forestville issues while at the same time cooperatively being in discussion with Blue Rock Quarry;

5) Report on Green Valley Creek Project (Richard)
  • Project nearly completed; major work done — follow-up maintenance and repair needed through 9/30;

6) Board elections
  • Usually held each year in the winter; two year terms; last year newly elected members were Peter R, Elizabeth N, and Val H;
  • Discussion of best way to proceed; other volunteer organizations in Town are also experiencing a lack of new people coming forward to contribute;

7) For next meeting’s agenda
  • Santa Rosa proposal for direct wastewater discharge into the Russian River;
  • Continue discussion of Board elections + elect officers.
