FPA Board Minutes - October 15, 2008
The board meets usually once a month at different locations and times. Please check the calendar to see the dates or contact Board Chair
for more information.
Attending
Board Members Present: Elizabeth Naegle, Anne Greenblatt, Max Broome, Richard Naegle
Guest: Ken Smith
1) Unanimous approval of minutes of last meeting, 9/7/08.
2) Evaluation of supervisor candidates’ forum at Town Meeting on 9/16/08
Mike Reilly’s report:
a) there will be limited County money for road repairs other than main arterials; we need to voice our concerns to the County about repair of outlying roads in the Spring;
b) The new County General Plan includes a bike/pedestrian walkway to go down Mirabel Road to Steelhead Beach;
c) County Plan maintains zoning as it currently exists in West County;
d) Sunset Beach project (with parking lot) nearing completion; will hopefully open soon;
e) Mike confidant that the Santa Rosa proposal to dump wastewater at Steelhead Beach will not be approved.
General agreement that the meeting went well; format of soliciting issues first, listing them, and then asking the candidates was effective;
Thanks again to Max for arranging for Mike, Rue, and Efren to come; thanks to Richard for chairing the meeting;
3) Future Plans and Goals for the FPA? Beginning of discussion.
Ideas generated:
- Flashing pedestrian walkway at crosswalk of 116 by Bank;
- Coordinated and more beautiful tree trimming of trees along 116 downtown;
- New lighting downtown: sidewalk lighting (e.g. as done in Brooklyn); new, more beautiful light standards;
- Explore use of the acre by terminus of Radota Trail which has already been purchased by Parks and Recreation;
- Find additional ways to support the Youth Park and other community assets in Forestville;
- Find additional ways to support Chamber of Commerce especially in terms of community functions, such as the Tree lighting and Easter egg hunt;
- Explore possibility of 12 foot lanes on Covey Road being reduced to legal minimum of 10 feet — thus allowing more room for the bike/pedestrian lane;
- Keep on top of Roundabout emplacement at Mirabel and 116 as well as the development of a bike path down Mirabel;
- Continue keeping an eye on the proposals and process for the Thiessen development;
Rue Furch’s comment at Supervisor candidates’ forum that with the County budget crisis Forestville and West County will have to do with less; volunteerism has been dropping off in Forestville; yet exactly what we need are more activist residents who will pitch in with local needs;
Unanimous agreement to hold a Town Meeting in February or March to involve the whole Town in identifying goals and issues we as a community need to be pursuing at this time.
Ken offered to get more information about the successful Brooklyn model for lighting downtown sidewalks; Richard offered to get more information about status of the acre purchased by Parks and Recreation near the end of the Radota Trail; Max offered to begin attending Chamber of Commerce meetings to give them support during this transition time for them; Richard and Anne also may attend;
Ken Smith interested in joining the FPA Board for the time being — and while the Downtown Planning Committee, which he heads, is on hiatus.
