Forestville News & Events, January 2019

New Beginnings
No matter how old I get, I love the idea of new beginnings. January seems to afford us to do just that. Start anew.

For example, this month the newly formed Lower Russian River Municipal Advisory Council under 5th District Supervisor Linda Hopkins begins to meet. Our “MAC,” as it’s referred to, stretches from Forestville west as far as Duncans Mills encompassing Hacienda, Pocket Canyon, Rio Nido, Guerneville, Monte Rio and Cazadero on its way.

Forestville News & Events, December 2018

For years, Earl Stevens made sure the downtown holiday tree was cut, hauled, put up and decorated so we could celebrate our very own town tree lighting. When an indispensable volunteer like that retires, what happens? The Wood and Trappe families knew what to do. They stepped in and have now made this formidable task a fun family and friends’ event where everyone from their darling toddlers to town patron Hal Wood shows up to make it happen.

Forestville News & Events, November 2018

Year-round I’m filled with gratitude for living in such a beautiful place. I feel lucky, don’t you? Plus, after 33 years working for hospice I realize just being alive and well is a big deal. Getting to live in Forestville is icing on the cake. I’m sad though that our national holiday for gratitude seems more about eating a lot and getting good deals on stuff we, or our friends and relatives, may or may not need.

Forestville News & Events, September 2018 I got a wonderful surprise the other day. Something I get to check off my “Wouldn’t It Be Cool” list. You know, that list that isn’t quite Bucket-List caliber such as seeing the Northern Lights (not yet) or jumping out of an airplane (done). No, this cool surprise was local and tied to Forestville History. I got to actually see one of those rare “Forestville Chairs” made by the Faudre Chair Factory, which put Forestville on the map in the late 1800s.

Forestville News & Events, August 2018

It’s a tale of two Sean’s. One a longtime resident, all around nice guy and frequent customer at Sunshine Roasters coffee shop downtown.

Forestville News & Events, July 2018, Summer's Here

Special July 4th Farmers Market
I’ve got a great idea for you. Kick off summertime in Forestville by coming to the 4th of July Farmers Market (Wednesday). Think pig roast, beer and wine, yummy food and bands! Joy Ride plays from 12-3, then Dog Gone Honey’s from 3-7PM. Bring enough money to buy the usual fresh produce, gourmet olive oils, breads, crafts and treats.

Forestville News & Events: June 2018

Flapjacks! Why not? It’s a perfect start to Forestville’s party- down weekend, the famous Youth Park BBQ June 2 and 3. You can get those pancakes at the Methodist Church starting at 8AM on Saturday. Right outside their front door you’ll see folks preparing for our own sweet little hometown PARADE, which starts at 10.

Forestville News & Events, April 2018

I don’t know about you, but I rarely gave Trenton Road much thought. I love the section that parallels River Road. I sometimes take it coming home from Santa Rosa when I want to get a sense of being on a sweet country road in the middle of the rich, luscious countryside we live in. And of course, when River Road is backed up it’s fun to know the local way around a traffic jam.

Forestville News & Events, March 2018

Have you done one of those DNA tests yet? Any surprises? I was sort of hoping I’d have something interesting show up in mine. But science tells me I’m still mostly Irish. The traditions from my childhood have formed me. The songs my mother sang doing the dishes. The lullabies to put us to sleep. The food. The folk dances. The proud green ribbon in my hair on St. Patrick’s Day. Generation after generation, firmly rooted traditions from County Cork Ireland were a huge part of my life. I always felt I had the “Luck of the Irish.” Maybe it’s just the gift of gab!
