FPA advocating for Forestville’s senior lunch program.

Dear Bud Metzger,
I am writing you since you are the Chairperson of the Sonoma County Area Agency on Aging. The Forestville Planning Association is a 501c3 non-profit educational corporation which acts as an advocate and voice for the citizens of Forestville.
We are strongly opposed to the proposal to close the senior lunch program in Forestville. Not only do our seniors fit the definition of rural, older Americans who qualify for such service, but there also is no transportation that could allow our currently served seniors to get to alternate sites in Guerneville and Sebastopol.
Moreover, I have just seen an email from Jane Doroff (dated 4/20/07) which states that the cost of operating the Forestville program this year is $19,706.70. Since the seniors each pay $3.50 per meal, and an average of twenty come three days a week for the meals, the participants generate over $7000 of the program costs.
That means additional funding of about $13,000 is all that is needed to maintain this much needed and successful program which has a twenty year history in Forestville. Our population here is rapidly aging, and the program will most certainly continue to grow and to be needed to meet the needs of both nutrition and social isolation of our rural elders.
We strongly encourage you and the County Area Agency on Aging to continue funding for the program and defeat any proposal to terminate it.
Sincerely yours,
Richard Naegle, President
