Alerts Blue Rock Quarry Expansion EIR; Downtown Bypass
1) Planning Commission Meeting: Review of Final Environmental Impact Report for the Proposed Blue Rock Quarry Expansion |
|
|
The Final Environmental Impact Report for the proposed Blue Rock Quarry Expansion has now been published. This expansion can triple the number of Blue Rock quarry trucks that run through Forestville. According to the DEIR (p 201), this means that on a “peak day” there will be 502 truck trips through Town — assuming a ten hour work day, that means 50 trucks an hour, or almost one every minute.
Once it is approved by the Planning Commission, the Board of Supervisors may quickly move ahead to approve the project... UNLESS you do not agree with the proposed expansion and voice your concerns.
The Planning Commission will review the EIR on Thursday, June 22, at 1:00 in the PRMD Meeting Room at 2550 Ventura, Santa Rosa. Objections to the adequacy of that report can be voiced then. Numbers do count, especially when specific shortcomings of the Report are addressed. To read the EIR, go to Sonoma-county.org/prmd/, run your cursor down to “publications” and then down to and click “Environmental Impact Reports.” Click the dot under the Blue Rock EIR to find the full text.
2) Downtown Bypass
A related ACTION ALERT regards the construction of the Bypass around the downtown. Our Chamber of Commerce has gone on record that it wants the bypass built before any increase in truck traffic is allowed. Moreover, at the last Town Meeting, which over 180 people attended, a straw vote was taken about the proposed bypass. Over 90% were in favor of the bypass with the rest either being opposed or wanting more information.
People wanting to let the powers that be know where they stand need to write letters to:
So. Co. Transportation Authority
520 Mendocino Ave, Suite 240
Santa Rosa, CA 95401
Or fax to: 565-5370
It will take concerted lobbying by the citizens of Forestville to convince the County Board of Supervisors to fully fund the construction of the Bypass and to require that it be built before quarries expand. Be sure to let the Board of Supervisors know what’s on your mind! While Mike Reilly strongly endorses the bypass, the others are lethargic. Email individual supervisors at:
mkerns@sonoma-county.org
pkelley@sonoma-county.org
tsmith@sonoma-county.org
vbrown@sonoma-county.org
mreilly@sonoma-county.org
Or write them:

Once the EIR is passed by the PRMD, the Board of Supervisors will consider the Blue Rock proposal. Check here for date and time as well as what you can do to effectively make your opinions known.
