FPA Board Minutes - November 8, 2009
The board meets once a month at different locations and times. Please contact Board President or more information.

Members Present
Max Broome, Elizabeth Naegle, Richard Naegle (a quorum was not present)

Guests
Robert O’Connor, Ken Smith, Doug McKeown

  1. Because there was not a quorum present, the minutes of last meeting could not be approved.

  2. Transition Movement Scott McKeown from Transition Sebastopol presented this program to us. Transition is a worldwide grassroots movement to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and to increase the economic resiliency of local communities.

It is an exciting and needed initiative — see transitiontowns.org and transitionsebastopol.org.

We discussed the appropriateness of this model for Forestville especially since many of the program’s elements are already being done here. Interested Forestville residents are encouraged to join Transition Sebastopol, which also serves West County.

  3. Next Town Meeting
We recommend that the next Town Meeting be at the end of February and that it include “how to do it” booths to update Forestvillians on:

    • Energy efficiency
    • The new County solar and insulation program
    • How to make raised beds for home vegetable gardening
    • Gray water catchment and use
    • Recycling
    • Food canning
    • Supporting local businesses
    • And more

We”ve all heard of good ideas out there — this would be a chance to meet those people implementing such programs and who have the facts. Sebastopol had a very successful and well attended event like this.

Richard will check with Sebastopol City Council Members about how they proceeded. A Transition Town booth could also be available for those who are interested; also, a booth for ideas and complaints for the County.
At this meeting, there can be a community update on the success of the Forestville Community Fund’s projects.
  4. Forestville Community Fund Update
    Because of a lack of quorum, we were unable to confirm the Board’s unanimous email vote to approve $150 of FCF funds for Forestville Prime Timers;

$50 donation received for mural; more donations are needed to support mural!

Chamber of Commerce failed to include the JD Kaiwi Downtown Beautification Project as a donation option on its membership application; Chamber Board had voted in July to do this while asking FCF/FPA help fund the project on a continuing basis; Richard will speak with them about how best to rectify this.
  5. Canyon Rock update
Forestville Citizens for Sensible Growth is in dialogue with Canyon Rock Quarry to possibly negotiate a settlement regarding FCSG’s suit against CR; it has sent CR a “list of talking points” which include air quality, Green Valley Creek, traffic & aesthetics, quarry operations, and miscellaneous issues.

  6. Citizen of the Year/Volunteer of the Year nominations requested by Chamber of Commerce (needed by 11/17).

  7. Bin/future agenda items:

    • 2010 goals for the FPA?
    • As a planning association, what does the FPA now plan for the Town? What does the Town want?
    • e.g. Windsor has declared itself a “family friendly” town, which does not allow tobacco/bong stores or adult video stores. Does our Town want to do something similar, especially in regards to the proposed Thiessen development?
