FPA Board Minutes - February 28, 2010
The board meets once a month at different locations and times. Please contact Board President
or more information.
Members Present
Max Broome, Elizabeth Naegle, Richard Naegle, Lucy Hardcastle, Robert O’Connor, Anne Greenblatt
-
Minutes of last meeting approved.
Proposed Town Meeting Format:
- Max Broome will introduce the meeting, review the FPA mission and brief history, introduce the Board members.
- Lucy Hardcastle will present an update on the Forestville Community Fund, soliciting applications, which are due by May 1.
- Max Broome will introduce Efren Carrillo (and will contact him to include an update on the roundabout and bypass and any other local projects/issues).
- Panel speakers will each give 5-minute presentations, and will then be available for one-on-one conversations during the last half hour, at tables around the room.
Speakers:
- Amy Bolten, Public Info Officer, Sonoma County Water Agency (will also present Son. Co. Energy Independence Program).
- Jane Elias, Energy Efficiency Consultant, Generational Energy.
- Erin Matthewson, Sonoma County Conservation Action.
- Ken Smith, sustainable gardening (with David Beazlie on So. Co. iGrow program).
- Sylvie Vatinelle, PG&E Energy Partners Program.
Follow-up to Town Meeting:
People who invited speakers will take responsibility for thanking them. Richard Naegle suggested follow-up article in the Gazette, with paragraphs on each speaker's program. Anne Greenblatt will send out email reminding Board members to submit paragraphs, then email to Max Broome for editing and submission to the Gazette.
Re-visiting and updating Goals for the FPA and Forestville:
It was suggested that the FPA re-kindle visioning process, co-sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, the Youth Park, and FPA. To be discussed further in the next meeting. Anne will send out 2009 goals for review ahead of time.
Time to re-constitute and re-name the Downtown Planning Committee? To be discussed in next meeting.
FPA website:
We were concerned that a ridesharing service (suggested last meeting) on the FPA website would present a liability issue. A blog space might work better.
Janet Zagoria has suggested a new format, a Content Management system, to make it easier for individuals to put up material on the website. Max will invite her to the next Board meeting to present the idea.
The 95436.org website is available, and Richard will ask her to subscribe, as it is more “gettable” on a pink sign advertising Town Meetings.
JD Kaiwi Downtown Clean-Up Project:
The FPA is offering a $500 grant again this year, to match contributions by local downtown merchants.
Fundraising ideas to be discussed at next meeting:
- Rumi’s Caravan, the evening event done in Sebastopol, could be done in Forestville as well — suggested by Richard Naegle.
- A Forestville Garden Tour also needs further discussion. We could raffle off a garden feature (perhaps a raised bed?). Lucy will ask Food for Thought and other organizations about their May Garden Tour.
- A Forestville Winery Tour: Robert and Lucy will explore this idea and report back (Iron Horse, Russian River Vineyard, etc.)
- Feature downtown businesses in a Christmas Tour?
Additional future agenda items:
- As a planning association, what does the FPA now plan for the Town? What does the Town want?
- e.g. Windsor has declared itself a “family friendly” town, which does not allow tobacco/bong stores or adult video stores. Does our Town want to do something similar, especially in regards to the proposed Thiessen development?
Respectfully submitted by Anne Greenblatt, Board Secretary.
